It is understood that the hours of work reflect the current scheduling arrangements and are subject to change as determined by the Employer. The current schedule includes day, evening, night, on-call and weekend shifts. The successful applicant will be required at times to work independently.

The role of the Central Processing Technician/Medical Device Reprocessing technician is to process, prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment and supplies for use in the OR and Patient Care Units.

To ensure consistent quality patient care, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to process a significant volume (10-15 complex sets; 20-25 noncomplex sets and 30-40 extras per shift) of complex sets of instruments and assembled trays with consistent accuracy and attention to detail at the completion of the 14-week orientation period.

The position requires prolonged periods of standing, lifting (10kg), bending, pulling and pushing.



Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from an approved accredited community college
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario
  • Demonstrated oral, written and reading comprehension and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, assertiveness and positive interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • 2 years Central Processing experience and/or equivalent in a health care environment
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation and Medical terminology
  • Knowledge related to the Basic Principles of Infection Control including Universal Precautions and Aseptic techniques

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
